What is methamphetamine?
Methamphetamine is a powerfully addictive stimulant that dramatically affects many areas of the central nervous system. It can be easily made in illegal, clandestine laboratories from relatively
inexpensive over-the-counter ingredients and can be purchased at a relatively low cost. These factors make methamphetamine a drug with a high potential for widespread abuse.
Is meth a problem in Idaho?
Methamphetamine is currently the biggest drug threat facing Idaho and the most widely abused drug in the state. In 2003, 818 residents sought treatment for meth addiction, or about 26.2 percent of all persons seeking substance abuse treatment. In 2004, the DEA, state and local authorities seized 42 clandestine labs and 131 in 2001.
